I thought it would be interesting to find out where everyone gets their musical interest from and what influences their musical tastes.
Here are mine.
I think the biggest influences for me are:
* Missy Higgins She's Australian, and was discovered through the Triple J unearthed competition when she was only 17 or something. She writes her own songs, and is a hugely talented pianist, guitarist and a kick-ass singer. My biggest influence.
* Sarah Blasko + Regina Spektor + Sia I love individual and unique voices and these singers certainly have that. I only just discovered Sia, but she is fantastic.
* Amy Lee Such a powerful voice. Lead singer of Evanescence. I love listening to her.
A few more of my favourite artists include Train, Avril Lavigne, Pink, The Veronicas, Foo Fighters, 3 Doors Down, Blink 182, U2, Jet, Grinspoon, Powderfinger, Evanescence, Maroon 5, Amiel, Bryan Adams, Robbie Williams, Sandi Thom, Coldplay, Eskimo Joe, No Dobubt, R.E.M., Goo Goo Dolls, Bond, Teddy Geiger, My Chemical Romance, The Butterfly Effect, The Fray, Snow Patrol, Evermore, James Blunt, Switchfoot ... ok I am going to stop listing them now, but there are heaps more. Just have a look at my iPod.
I love alternative music, but i don't really have a lot of it. If anyone wants to share their music with me (alternative or not) in the form of burnt cd's or similar, I would have no objections. =D
I love listening to all music really, but there are a few few songs that I hear and I am like, 'wow'. Drops of Jupiter by Train is my all-time favourite, I think.
Um. I suppose I owe my piano playing to my mum who forced me to have lessons from the age of about 5 or 6. But I am a bit out of practice now, I haven't had lessons for years and years. I don't know if I am only musical because of this or if I would have been muical anyway, but probably not. I don't really think I am naturally musically talented - I can't play things by ear, only by practicing them over and over. I would love to have a good music ear. So, thank you mum.
Ok, I'll let someone else have a turn now.

At the moment im mainly inspired by people who can phrase lyrics awesomely. Not just the words they use but the metre of their lines and by not only following the same structure each line but making them fit perfectly. Also singers/songwriters that can take simple lines and phrase them uniquely for the better of the song. these people include Anthony Green (formerly of saosin now singing for Circa Survive), Ryan Ross (Panic! at the Disco), Pete Wentz/Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy), Jesse Lacey (Brand New) and Travis Macoy (Gym Class Heroes).

I play by ear, in a terrible way. I pick up the melody and then accompany everything by chords or arpeggios. Ask Jess, she will tell you, all of my songs sound VERY similar. You, Jess, were six. And you WOWED everyone at the Northam Eisteddfod thingy at the age of six with your beautiful playing. You were my inspiration. As was jealousy (If my big sister got to play piano then I SHOULD TO.) So, Jess is my inspirationAs is sia. Thankyou my Deviantart.com friend for introducing me to her. I want to play piano interludes like her. Delta GoodremNo, not for the cancer thing, or for her lyrics. But I watch a DVD of cone of her concerts and she held a conversation with an audience member and kept playing all at the same time, I was inspired to learn to do that. One day I will. Jane RutterAn Aussie woman on the flute... what can I say? And BOND, as in the 4 ladies with the violins and cellos. One is Aussie. I adore their music. And locally? Casey, my love, if I could sing half as well as you? I would die a happy girl.

haha thanks chloe although your not too bad a singer so shh!! umm ok my inspiration initally came from my music teacher at primary school.. she sang a bit of everything from opera (mainly) to pop.. she went on a few tours in europe and won several competitions! she was amazing! and yeah she kept pushing me in the right direction and helped me to train my voice a little. she also awarded me full choir colours which made me want to sing even more haha.. but yeah she was no longer an inspiration after i did not make it into the choir in year 7 haha nah only kidding she ROCKED!! recently i think my inspiration has mainly come from Lacuna Coil (mainly the comalies album) The lead singer has a great voice (kinda like Amy Lee) so the albums sound kinda similar to hers but the music fits more under the rock genre! its awesome! i will have to let you guys listen to it sometime.. ok this is sad.. but the McClymonts are also an inspiration to me.. although it is not the type of music i listen to, the way that the three girls work do well together and create perfect harmony with each other in all their songs is AMAZING!! they are also pretty so hey.. why wouldnt they be an inspiration haha anyway i am usually only inspired by the voices as i dont know much about music so yeah.. you may not agree with me but hey at least ive given my opinion haha

My inspiration for writing comes from real-life experiences, and I have a lot of years to draw from ( damn!!). I love all music that has a message .... or just a thumping, purely pulsating, foot stomping, heavy boogey beat.!!! My music inspiration came from listening to an old man playing guitar at Meekatharra on a starlit night.. and I thought if just one man could hold an group of people captive with just one guitar, then he had something.... didn't need the latest glitz / glamour you beaut gear. So, there you have it... talent will shine thru... don't need to act or sound like anyone else... Love the comments on this page...really good stuff.

Justin Hawkins - The Darkness: Yes, he quit coz of drugs. Yes, he may be coming back. Yes, he wears really bad unitards. But I'd still love to write a catchy tune like that and be one of the most important bands in making the guitar solo popular again. Herman Li/Sam Totman - Dragonforce: These guys can play at (approximately) 1700 notes per minute - but at that speed, who is counting? Yes I love guitar solos. And songs about ancient warriors Billy Corgan - The Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan/Solo: Not a huge fan of his recent solo album, and not the biggest fan of the Zwan stuff, but I love the Pumpkins. Dave Grohl - Nirvana/Probot/Foo Fighters: Could have faded away with the passing of Kurt Cobain. Sure as hell didn't. Elton John: Yes, I like Elton John. Especially "Funeral For A Friend and Loves Lies Bleeding" (I think) - one of the best introductions I've heard. I have way too freakin many to list - yeah, I like Lacuna Coil too, and with that of course comes an appreciation for Amy Lee and all that, but apart from that my music seems to be a biased collection of dudes. My albums are a complete sausage fest. Dunno why, though I think Sara Blasko is pretty wicked.
