You're to be commended on your awareness big fella - I didn't even know there were that many albums in 2006 full stop; and I probably didn't even listen to one.
I've only even heard of seven of those bands Mind you, if it means anything I've probably heard the tones, chord progressions & melodies contained within those albums about 20,000 times before haha!
Ahh man that's cold.
Gotta get on board the album train before they disappear entirely.

haha as for the melodies im sure you have. There are quite a few bands in here that probably couldnt be commended for their originality, but they still rock at what they do

Yeah - after a while you tend to think you've heard it all so don't bother listening. Sometimes it's true, sometimes it's not. Another point of view is that there's a heap of stuff from the past to discover as well as the new stuff - of course I haven't been arsed to listen to any old stuff either.
My theory is that as soon as I can pick up JJJ again things'll be fine ;D The only new album I spent time with in 2006 was amputechture by the Mars Volta - half of it was really good.
What are the most progressive 3 albums on your list? What are the 'happiest' 3 albums? - Having no teen angst means I don't need a lot of minor key 'no-one understands me' action. Help me out here Ross!

probably the most progressive record on the list would be Brand New - The God and The Devil Are Raging Inside Me. This is their third album and they have changed so much on each one. There are some really beautiful and moody songs on here.
Saosin is also pretty awesome. Merging metal guitars and drumming with the big catchy choruses of rock. They also have an incredible singer who would pants just about anyone in any alternative genre.
Gym Class Heroes are also pretty different. Indie styled music merged with hip hop. An awesomly aware rapping vocalist backed by the rest of the band being a guitarist, bassist and drummer. Hearing hip hop with a real drum kit instead of programmed beats is pretty cool.
As for the happiest records of the year that would have to go to Hellogoodbye - ZAVD and Head Automatica - Proganda. Both albums are upbeat elctro tinged pop with pop punk energy and stylings.

Awesome man - thanks for the heads up. I reckon maybe we'll have to swap some samplers... That's what the music club is there for, exposing people to different kinds of stuff. So yep, I'll hit you up for some new tunes.

I'm going to be controversial here and say:
Disturbed - Ten Thousand Fists The Living End - State of Emergency Hoobastank - Every Man for Himself
I usually get albums that have been out for a while, so I don't know that many from last year. Also, wasn't The Sound of White released ages back, more like 2004-5?

Controversial because all my friends and everyone I know cringe at the merest mention of those bands and albums, and are utterly convinced they're terrible. They're not 'real' music apparently.
Also, Imago was the first Butterfly Effect release I could even slightly get into. My best mate worships the ground they walk on, and a lot of their fans thought it was their worst work yet. But I've just never gone for that alternative/progressive stuff in the vein of Tool, NIN and A Perfect Circle. That's what they sound like to me anyway.

Nat,
Yes, I was a little off half the songs on Imago. It was akin (but less disturbing) to buying Billy Corgan's "Future Embrace" album in 05, hoping for the new Adore, and being very disappointed. But I still like half the songs on there, so compared to some of the other crap I bought last year, it was an unfortunate highlight.
I now know how Silverchair fans must have felt a few years ago.
I forgot to mention that I didn't really put mine in order, I just kinda kept listing them. But 10,000 days is still on top. What an album!
I really must try to find this Isis band you keep pimping, Nat.

Enkc: Not into progressive? I find it far more rewarding then metal written for WWF soundtracks. Jokes. Just trying to get you fired up.
Ben: Silverchair after Neon Ballroom = spew. Indeed you should check out Isis. If you stay at mine for Dragonforce I shall burn you some. Their gig was the best I have ever been to; better then Tool or Opeth even.
